The Governor of the Krasnodar Region shared this information with journalists.
"The Krasnodar Region strengthens its reputation as one of Russia's leading fruit and berry producers. In the last ten years, the cultivation of these products in the industrial sector has more than doubled. The average yield now stands at 248 hundred kilograms per hectare, which is 40 percent above the national average. Last year, we achieved a historical record in Kuban’s horticulture, with 550,000 tons of fruits and berries collected, including 525,000 tons of apples. If the weather remains favorable, we anticipate an increase in this figure this year," Veniamin Kondratyev stated.
He attributed this impressive growth to the annual planting of intensive and super-intensive orchards. Previously, an area of 60,000 hectares yielded a maximum of 350,000 tons of apples. Now, thanks to modern agricultural techniques, the area has been halved while gross production has surged by over 60%, with yields reaching 600 hundred kilograms per hectare.
In industrial horticulture, practices such as drip irrigation, trellising, and advanced pest and disease protection measures are becoming increasingly common. The importance of certified seedlings cannot be overstated; the region has 28 nurseries that collectively produce up to 6.5 million seedlings annually, including apple, pear, plum, cherry, and peach varieties. The Krasnodar Region meets its own needs and supplies young plants to other regions as well.
This remarkable progress has been supported by state measures, with significant funding allocated from both federal and regional budgets for the horticultural sector's development. In 2024, 1.1 billion rubles were allocated, while this year’s budget has increased to 1.3 billion rubles.
The main fruit and berry producers are concentrated in the Slavyansk, Leningradskaya, Abinsk, Dinsky, Yeisk, and Timashevsk districts.
