The Vice-Governor, Aleksander Ruppel, discussed the development of the partnership with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Africa to the Russian Federation.
The foreign trade turnover of the Krasnodar Region with the Republic of South Africa amounted to 107.5 million USD in 2020. Fruits, nuts, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, were the main imported products. According to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Africa to the Russian Federation, Mzuvukile Jeff Maqetuka, a third of all citrus fruits sold in Russia were delivered from the Republic of South Africa. The Republic intends to increase its presence in the Russian market, for which it will use 9 ice-free ports of the Krasnodar Region.
Winemaking can become another vector for cooperation. The Republic of South Africa ranks seventh in the world in terms of wine exports to Russia, and the Krasnodar Region is its main wine producer in the country.
– It would be interesting for our wineries to exchange experience and technologies, – Mzuvukile Jeff Maqetuka said.
At the end of the meeting, representatives of the Republic of South Africa proposed to conclude an agreement on cooperation between the Krasnodar Region and one of the provinces of the Republic. The document will contain specific steps to build up trade, economic, and cultural cooperation.
