Ceremony of Awarding of the Best Chess Player on the Earth Took Place in Olympic Sochi
A title match between Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand ended before time on in Sochi November 23. The bout ended with a score of 6.5:4.5 in favor of the Norwegian. Thanks to this, Carlsen became the best player in the world for the second time running.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the award ceremony.
The President noted that the last match, the outcome of which 2 million people in nearly 100 countries watched, will help further development of chess in the world and specifically in Russia.
The chess match took place in the media center of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, located in the heart of the Olympic Park. It is here that during the Games, competitions broadcast was carried out all over the world. Today, the media center operates as the largest congress and exhibition center of the Krasnodar region.
